We are excited to update you with amazing news that Idza Luhumyo, the current recipient of the Margaret Busby Daughters of Africa Scholarship, has been announced as the winner of the prestigious Short Story Day Africa Prize 2021.

Winning this literary prize means that Idza’s short story, titled Five Years Next Sunday, will be published later this year in the anthology called Disruption: New Short Fiction from Africa. You can read more about Idza’s reflections on winning this prize and her writing experience at SOAS here.

Idza is coming towards the end of studying for an MA in Comparative Literature at SOAS and has been delighted to be the inaugural recipient of this valuable scholarship. We wish her all the very best with her career post SOAS.

Delighted to hear of Idza’s success and I look forward to reading her story when it’s published. What a great start for the MB D of A Scholarship!
